Welcome to Affine Translations!

I am Zsanett Rozendaal-Pandur, freelance translator. I make (legalized) translations between Dutch, Hungarian and English languages. You can read about me and the services I offer using the menu above.

The name of my enterprise was inspired by mathematics - I used the idea of affine transformations to express the essence of my work, in the following way. In the course of an affine transformation, all points on one line will stay on one line. Transformations of this kind include mirroring, shifting, rotation - terms which can also describe the essence of translation: The source text has to be mirrored, shifted, rotated into another language while keeping its coherence and the connected points. There are texts in which culture and linguistic creativity plays a great role. In these cases it might not be enough a simple mirroring of the meaning, but we need to change certain proportions in order to cover the areas that are not shared between the two cultures. It is the translator's job to find the right way of translation and expression with which the original intentions of the text can be preserved, even if it means a somewhat different form.

It is the translator most important initial task to decide which methods to use for the best result for a given text. After this, the executive part of the work can begin, which will contain a number of affine transformations to create a coherent text, true to the message and intentions of the original.

My work is characterized by these thoughts, among others. As a linguist and a language-lover, I approach the source texts critically and analytically. As a creative language user, I make the translations readable and stylistically matching. In the course of my work I can rely on my technical affinity, docility and thoroughness to help me translate various text types qualitatively.
