About me

I was born (1976) and raised in Pécs, Hungary. As partly Croatian through my father's family, I attended a bilingual primary school.
I started university in 1995, majoring in English language and culture at the University of Pécs.
I applied for the Erasmus exchange program in 1998 and got a scholarship to study in Amsterdam, where I spent one year at the university.
After this initial year I decided to stay in the Netherlands. First I worked as a Internet software developer for over two years, after which I became involved in the work of a humanitarian organization that is active in Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina. I have been to Srebrenica four times, where my knowledge of Croatian served a good purpose beyond the regular work. Within a few years of my arrival to the Netherlands, I spoke Dutch fluently.
While living in the Netherlands, I also enrolled at the University of Amsterdam to finish the MA degree that I started in Hungary. I graduated cum laude in 2004, in English linguistics, with applied linguistics specialization. In January 2005, I was awarded the prize for the best MA thesis written in the area of applied linguistics in 2004 in the Netherlands, by the Dutch Assosiation of Applied Linguistics (Anéla).
After a three-year-long stay in Norway, I moved to Hungary with my family in January 2008.

About my work

I started doing translation assignments in 2002, partly for my work at the time, which included translation and intermediation between English and Dutch. Around this time I also did my first translations for friends and family. I occasionally worked as a Hungarian-Dutch interpreter during the first meetings of Hungarian arrested persons and their lawyers.

I became a freelancer in 2004 and in the same year I was registered as a sworn translator by the Court of Amsterdam, for Dutch, Hungarian and English. I joined the online translation directory/community, ProZ.com, as a platinum member.
